During a very lengthy and enjoyable Gchat the other night, with Mac, I broached the subject of the Tennessee Williams’ camp masterpiece Boom!—the film version of his play The Milk Train Doesn’t Stop Here Anymore which starred Liz Taylor and Richard Burton. (We had maneuvered ourselves onto a Tenn Dubs jag, you see.)
John Waters has written frequently about his adoration for the film, often saying: “I used to show it on first dates. If they didn’t like it I could never go out with them again.“ Also: It co-stars Noel Coward. As the “Witch of Capri.” I mean, c’mon.
I have not seen it, thought I am longing to, and it will likely not be migrating to DVD anytime soon. But, duh, as with all things, go to the internet. So here are the opening moments, via the YouTube, and it looks like an extended perfume commercial (and not only because of La Liz. White Diamonds!). Really the whole point of this is, who has a copy, and when are we having a screening party?
