The Fred Schneider Covers Project

I’m in the midst of rebuilding my iTunes library, and as such I ended up adding one of the more dismissed albums of Madonna’s post-millennial career — American Life. (Though, really, which album released in the last eight or so years that is the most reviled is debatable.) Anyhoo! Listening to the title track, I for a moment wished she’d outsourced that dreadful rap segment to Fred Schneider of the B-52s. But then, I often wish songs, especially rap and hip-hop, were covered by Fred Schneider. I’d like Fred Schneider to do an entire album of covers, with his up-talky, nasal delivery. Below are some suggestions:

  • Kelis’ “Bossy”
  • 50 Cent’s “Candy Shop”
  • Outkast’s “Hey Ya!”
  • Cher’s “Believe”
  • The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army”
  • The Black eyed Peas’ “My Humps”

Er, these are off the top of my head. But still! Fred Schneider? Cover album? Golden.
