—The line appears in Charlotte Brontë’s Corner Dishes. Daphne du Maurier, in the interesting but often marrowless biography The Infernal World of Branwell Brontë, thinks “the curious dialogue” rather to have been her brother Branwell’s invention.  ANYWAY! My new favorite insult?  I do believe so.
